The Haisla Recreation Centre has been a gathering place for the community since the late Heber Maitland cut the ribbon in 1978. It’s more than just a building. It’s where we come together to share meals, celebrate culture, honour loved ones, and support each other during times of loss. Memorials and funerals are given priority, reflecting the Centre’s role in helping us care for one another.


The Haisla Recreation Centre is also a space for staying active and connected. Dances practices, basketball practices and tournaments are held regularly, and the facility is available to rent. Whether you need the main floor, kitchen, or upstairs area, the Centre continues to be a welcoming space for everyone in the community.

Cardio and Weight Room

Drop-in weight room and cardio equipment available for community members aged 15 and up. No pre-booking required, just show up and get moving.

Please note there are no kids in the weightroom/ cardio room at anytime, due to liability.

The cardio and weight room is available to the general public for a $5 drop-in fee that can be paid at the Haisla Nation Administration building at 500 Gitksan Avenue.

After hours access is available to members and community members using a key fob. Please contact the Recreation Centre for  more information.

Terms and Conditions

  • Setup and cleanup are the responsibility of the renter.
  • No smoking inside the building. Violations may result in loss of deposit and cleaning fees.
  • Renter is liable for all damages. Security must be arranged by the renter for applicable events.
  • Alcohol requires RCMP notification.
  • No exclusive long term rentals allowed.
  • Food is not allowed in the gym. Use the hallway area for serving and canteen setups.

Cancellation Policy

  • Full refund if cancelled 48 hours before the event.
  • 50% refund if cancelled 24 hours before the event.

Exception: The cancellation policy does not apply when the cancellation is due to a death in the community.

Clean Up Checklist

  • Mats swept and mopped
  • Kitchen cleaned and fridge emptied
  • Garbage taken to the dumpster
  • Bathrooms wiped
  • Tables and chairs stacked
  • Entry cleaned
